I'm a Pacific voter in a multigenerational household with children and older relatives. Our main concerns are household costs, enough space and access to healthcare.

This is a designed voter situation, not a representative sample or a finding about everyone in that group.

## What they asked

I am considering my vote in the 2026 New Zealand general election. What would parties do about affordable housing suitable for larger households?

Study-assigned priority: Major. This is a design assumption, not a measured preference. Reason: Space and affordability are explicitly stated household needs.

## How the assistants handled this voter’s main question

For the multigenerational Pacific household, PF105 ChatGPT identifies enough bedrooms, accessibility and proximity to services as part of affordability. That is a useful expansion of the question: a cheap but unsuitable dwelling would not meet the stated need. Gemini likewise recognises space and access to healthcare.

AI Mode discusses a first-home loan threshold but explicitly notes that the scheme is not exclusively for large Pacific families. This is a helpful boundary. AI Overviews presents broad party housing mechanisms, which can explain supply but do not demonstrate that appropriately sized homes will become available to this household.

The scenario does not say that the family is a first-home buyer or a social-housing tenant. Those pathways should be offered as possibilities with eligibility checks. Its health, costs, education and retirement questions ensure that children and older relatives remain part of the assessment without turning Pacific identity into a presumed party choice.

ChatGPT

> For a multigenerational household, “affordable housing” is not only about the price of a home or rent — it also includes whether homes have enough bedrooms, can accommodate children and older relatives, are accessible, and are near healthcare and services. In the 2026 New Zealand election, parties differ mainly on how they would increase supply, support renters and first-home buyers, and expand or reshape public housing. Gemini

> Navigating the housing market as a multigenerational Pacific household—balancing the needs of growing children and older relatives—brings unique challenges. You need a home that provides adequate space, is financially sustainable, and sits close to essential health services.

Google AI Mode

> For a Pacific voter navigating a multigenerational household—balancing the needs of tamariki (children) and older relatives—finding affordable, appropriately sized housing is a central challenge. In the lead-up to the 2026 New Zealand general election , the major political parties have laid out distinct approaches to housing affordability, first-home ownership, and public/community supply, though direct policies specifically custom-built for large or multigenerational households vary by approach:

Google AI Overviews

> For the 2026 New Zealand general election , political parties are addressing housing affordability and supply with distinctly different strategies. For a large, multigenerational Pacific household, the main impacts will be felt through changes to state housing availability, first-home buying schemes, and the intersection of housing costs with healthcare.

## What this can and cannot tell you

One set of answers, from made-up voters, on one day.

Each question was asked once. AI assistants vary their answers, so a repeat run would differ in wording and detail. The location comparison shows that answers differed; proving that location caused the difference would need repeat runs and verified access locations.

The voters are designed situations, not a sample of New Zealanders. The study shows what the assistants said and lets anyone check it. It does not show whether anyone changed their vote, or why the assistants answered as they did.

We read all 32 voting-guidance answers and the case-study questions in full, and checked 17 statements. We have not read all 815 answers in full or checked every policy claim.
