I rent in Henderson, West Auckland, work in central Auckland and want to buy a home eventually. Rent and the time and cost of commuting are my main concerns.

This is a designed voter situation, not a representative sample or a finding about everyone in that group.

I rent in Henderson, West Auckland, work in central Auckland and want to buy a home eventually. Rent and the time and cost of commuting are my main concerns. What would each change for West Auckland commuters?

Study-assigned priority: Major. This is a design assumption, not a measured preference. Reason: A named transport project tests whether AI has current local information.

## Asked from Auckland

The same question, word for word, asked nationally and from Auckland. For this voter's main question, 1 of the 4 assistants named a different set of parties.

| Assistant | Parties named nationally | Parties named from Auckland |
| --- | --- | --- |
| ChatGPT | ACT, Greens, Labour, National, NZ First | ACT, Greens, Labour, National, NZ First, Te Pāti Māori |
| Gemini | ACT, Greens, Labour, National, NZ First | ACT, Greens, Labour, National, NZ First |
| Google AI Mode | ACT, Greens, Labour, National, NZ First | ACT, Greens, Labour, National, NZ First |
| Google AI Overviews | Greens, Labour, National | Greens, Labour, National |

## How the assistants handled this voter’s main question

Implementation date added; fare-unit ambiguity requires care

Labour’s fare relief, Green fare/infrastructure measures and National’s network-funding approach persist. Edition 3 adds a July 2027 start date for Labour’s cap, distinguishes Green and National reliability levers, and ambiguously describes a Green $2 daily or low fare cap rather than the earlier flat fare. Existing CRL service and future fare promises must be checked separately.

Gemini · 12 October 2026 · Earlier answer

> For a renter in Henderson working in central Auckland who is looking to buy a home and watching every commuting dollar and minute, the transport debate in the **2026 New Zealand general election** boils down to a clear contrast: **fare relief and mass transit expansion versus road investment, farebox recovery, and fiscal restraint.**

## What this can and cannot tell you

Three sets of answers, from made-up voters, on three days.

Each question was asked once per edition. AI assistants vary their answers, so part of any change between editions is that variation rather than a lasting shift. Three editions show what changed; they do not show why. News events, what the assistants retrieved and changes to the assistants themselves all remain possible explanations.

The voters are designed situations, not a sample of New Zealanders. The study shows what the assistants said and lets anyone check it. It does not show whether anyone changed their vote.

We read all 31 voting-guidance answers and each voter's main question in full, and checked 12 statements. We have not read all 793 answers in full or checked every policy claim.
